WHAT IS ELECTROLYSIS?

HOW DOES ELECTROLYSIS WORK?

A trained electrologist inserts a tiny metal probe into each hair follicle. A small amount of electrical current is then delivered to the probe using an electronic device called an epilator. There are three methods of electrolysis; Galvanic, Thermolysis, and the Blend method. Galvanic electrolysis uses a direct electrical current to stimulate a chemical action that destroys the hair. Thermolysis uses a high-frequency electrical current used to create heat that destroys the hair. The Blend method is a combination of Galvanic and Thermolysis. Trevino Beauty Collab uses the Blend method.

Electrolysis is the only FDA and AMA approved form of permanent hair removal.

Discovered in 1869 by an ophthalmologist, Dr. Charles Michel, who was looking for a safe, effective way to remove ingrown eyelashes. Though the technique and equipment have greatly improved and evolved, the same basic method is used today.

ELECTROLYSIS PRE-TREATMENT CARE

  1. Let your hair grow out 1/8 of an inch, or 2mm. Your electrologist needs enough hair to grab with the tweezer. (Shave roughly 3 days before your appointment).
  2. If the hair gets too long between treatments, you can shave or trim the hair.
  3. Daily moisturizing is very important. It helps keep the skin hydrated and helps the probe insert easily into the hair follicle.
  4. Drink lots of water!
  5. Exfoliate on the day of your electrolysis treatment.
  6. Caffeinated beverages could make electrolysis feel more painful.

ELECTROLYSIS AFTERCARE

It is normal following electrolysis for the treated area to be red and slightly swollen. Both of these conditions usually disappear after an hour or two, but could last longer.

Ibuprofen and Benadryl are both great options to help with any reactions that may occur.

In general, avoid any kind of activity that would subject the treated skin to irritating conditions while it is healing.

Questions Answered

How many treatments are required to see results?

Generally, changes in hair texture and density are noticeable after around three months of consistent treatments and can take a year+ before you'll see permanent results in one area. It all depends on where the hair is growing, hormones, the amount of hair, density of hair and previous hair removal methods.

How often should appointments be?

This depends on the amount of hair and the area. Our goal is to remove all of the hair the first treatment and then treat all the new growth as soon as it pops out so we can do the most damage to the follicle while protecting your skin. If we are unable to remove everything in a single treatment, then we will likely recommend coming in weekly until we can.

what side effects might be expected?

On average, any redness or slight swelling will be gone after a couple of hours. In some cases, little red dots may linger for a couple of days or tiny scabs may form. If any side effects are bothersome, let us know and we will have you come back in for a complimentary healing treatment with our red light therapy and healing mask.

does It hurt?

Electrolysis feels like a little pinch or just a little bit of heat. How much it hurts depends on the person and the area of the body. Lidocaine gel can be used to mitigate the discomfort. a.
